Lyon Part-Dieu, France's second-largest services centre
On behalf of Covivio, Eiffage Construction worked on the renovation and extension works at Silex². The aim of this project designed by the architects Ma Architectes and Arte Charpentier: to offer a high-end tertiary space located in Lyon Part-Dieu, France's second-largest business district.
The project involved the construction of a 9-storey public-access building, as well as the refurbishment of an existing bonded concrete tower with a new extension in metal structure, forming a complex designated as a high-rise building (Immeuble Grande Hauteur or IGH).
Several Eiffage Group entities were active on this immense project managed by Eiffage Construction as a general contractor: Demcy for the demolition of the old buildings, Eiffage énergie Systèmes for the electrical, air-conditioning, ventilation and heating packages, and Goyer for the steel structure of the new part of the tower.

An innovative, high-end office complex combining comfort and work
Silex² offers a wide range of services to its occupants: company restaurant, cafeteria, shops, brasserie with table service on the 21st floor, multi-service concierge desk….
Tower employees (representing almost 3,500 people) enjoy services that are open all day to host client meetings, thanks in particular to the 1,700 m² of landscaped, planted patio areas, of which 600 m² are dedicated to urban agriculture.
In terms of energy and environmental performance, the project is aligned with the Eiffage Group's ambitions, aiming for dual certification – HQE level Excellent and BREEAM Excellent rating.
A breathtaking architectural challenge
Silex² is a unique architectural operation that required a great deal of technical skill on the part of the workforce.
A 1,800-tonne metal structure, forming an exoskeleton, was needed to build the extension. It was also necessary to remove two storeys from the existing section – a challenge brilliantly met by the Eiffage Construction Confluences workforce.
As for the tower, it comprises a metal frame and rises to 126 metres with an 18-metre-high spire.
Silex² rests on a concrete base and will be open to the city, day and night, thanks to large glazed façades with horizontal and vertical «spines», designed by Goyer.
Silex² Tower in Lyon
This project was divided into three zones:
- The former EDF tower was completely refurbished over a surface area of 11,000 m², including office space on 24 storeys as well as a restaurant;
- The tower extension also hosts office space and a 135-seat auditorium. At almost 130 m high, it is two storeys higher than the renovated part;
- A 10,000 m² public-access building includes an inter-company restaurant, cafeteria, shops, fitness room and other offices.
