Listed as a Historic Monument, the Church of Saint-Germain-L'Auxerrois is the oldest building in Pantin. Built in 1664 under the direction of Michel Villedo, the architect of the King's buildings who built the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, it was last extensively renovated in the early 20th century. One hundred years later, under the aegis of the town and the Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles (Drac), it has been restored to its original glory. Our Pradeau Morin Monuments Historiques teams took part in this extraordinary project, helping to restore Pantin's oldest building.
Led by Jean-Paul Mauduit, Heritage Architect, the project was supervised and approved by the Regional Commission for Historic Monuments.
After three years of restoration work, the Church of Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois in Pantin has been restored to its former glory, standing proudly in the heart of the town.
The restoration work focused on
- Restoration of the facades and woodwork;
- Restoration of the interior spaces, including restoration of the plasterwork on the walls and vaults, and installation of a new floor equipped with a heating system;
- The development of the external spaces, including the creation of new pedestrian and PRM accesses, the renewal of the floor coverings, the creation of green spaces in the style of an Italian garden, and the enlargement of the surface area of the parish rooms.
Our Pradeau Morin Monuments Historiques teams worked on the scaffolding, masonry and ashlar, rendering and plastering work packages, as well as the green spaces, during 3 phases of work:
Phase 1: During the first phase, the changes mainly concerned demolition and structural reinforcement work. During site preparation for this phase, our teams paid particular attention to the phasing between our work and the installation of Lot 01's scaffolding, in order to avoid mutual inconvenience.
Phase 2: During this phase, the exterior structural work was carried out, including the creation of a ramp for people with reduced mobility, built at the rear of the church.
Phase 3: This final phase involved demolition work on the interior, carried out using light or manual equipment.Congratulations to our teams on this long and complex project, which took just over three years to complete, given the technical nature of the work, combining restructuring, respect for the historic parts of the building, and the requirements in terms of completion times and site organisation. This project is an example of Pradeau Morin's expertise in the field of historic monuments.
