Successful take-off: Eiffage Construction starts work on the new Pilot Training Centre in Cognac

Our Eiffage Construction teams in the South-West are currently at the helm of a site unlike any other: the construction of a Fomedec (Modernised Training and Differentiated Fighter Crew Training) building on the edge of the 709 air base, which is needed to absorb the number of training courses that will no longer be delivered by the Tours base and will be transferred to Cognac.

Work has just begun on this challenging project:

  •     Located on the edge of the air base's runway, all the aeronautical constraints must be taken into account;
  •     A fast-paced schedule: the structural work is to be completed in 9 months and will last 14 months overall.

With a total surface area of nearly 8,400sqm, the project includes the treatment of the basements by casing, the use of alveolar slabs with a non-standard span of 15m, pre-walls with concrete facing and aluminium cladding, a prefabricated solution for the bleachers of the training centre's auditorium and the fitting out of the attic as a technical area.

A technical variant was proposed to create the ground floor using less concrete, the SEAC ISOL floor made of concrete beams and a rigid insulating filling. In addition to the insulating power of this solution, this variant goes in the direction of sober consumption of materials, which is beneficial from the point of view of reducing the carbon footprint.

The project will be delivered to ESID Bordeaux in early 2023.

Congratulations to our teams!
