Fly over the CESI Rouen eco-campus, an innovative operation realized by Eiffage Construction

Inaugurated in October, the new CESI Rouen campus displays a contemporary architecture. Created by our teams at Eiffage Construction and Clemessy, this eco-campus is at the forefront of innovation and technology, with a demonstrator dedicated to «Industry of the Future», and has an important environmental component.

Delivered in December 2019 for its first semester with students in January 2020, the campus was inaugurated this fall. Carried out by Eiffage Construction as a general contractor, the work mainly involved the expertise of local companies.

With an area of 10,000 m2 spread over 4 levels, from garden level to R+2, the building is located in the heart of the Campus Sciences & Engineering Rouen Normandie in the Madrillet (near Rouen).

Its architecture was designed by DHA and CARLI, to make it a place of learning at the cutting edge of innovation to train in the skills and trades of tomorrow an audience of all ages and different statuses (apprentices, students, alternants, vocational trainees, job seekers, etc.). Many places are set up to encourage innovation: open coworking spaces, learning rooms, resource centre, 320-seat amphitheatre, cafeteria, student living spaces, spaces dedicated to employees, Industry of the Future demonstrator, outdoor amphitheatres, patios and vegetated terraces…

On the environmental front, many initiatives in terms of energy savings and sustainable development have been implemented. The building has been designed and designed to optimize its energy consumption, due to its orientation, its numerous patios and its vegetated roofs. 100 m2 of photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof, providing 10% of the consumption and supplying the equivalent of the energy needs of the Industrie du Futur demonstrator. In addition, the connection to the biomass boiler of the Métropole de Rouen (mainly wood) makes it possible not to increase the CO2 emissions for heating. Dynamic energy management systems have been favoured (zone lighting, control of light detectors, programming, etc.). The building meets the BBC-20 standard and is certified RT 2012 -20%.

Outside, it respects the natural slope of the soil, its biodiversity and limits hydrological disturbance. An ecological corridor has been established to preserve the movement of species present on the site. Electric charging stations have been installed in the car parks.

This operation was done in synergy with another expertise of the group, Clemessy, the brand of Eiffage Energie Systèmes, for the electrical works.

Congratulations to our teams and thanks to our partners : DHA and CARLI architects, RESO, BABIN, LAND’ACT, ABC DECIBEL, SOCOTEC.
