Renovation and modernisation
Krakow, the former capital of Poland and the country's second-largest city, boasts architecture steeped in centuries of history. As such, it is now one of the country's most popular tourist destinations.
The Henryk-Reyman stadium, erected between 2004 and 2011 in the heart of the city, covers an area of more than 21,150 m² and stands almost 35 metres high. On 8 December, Eiffage Polska Budownictwo was awarded the public tender to modernise Krakow's municipal stadium.
This major project involved a number of work packages, including the renovation of an 11,500 m² façade, the replacement of windows and doors, as well as the upgrade of HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) systems, incorporating energy-efficient solutions.
A record renovation
The Henryk-Reyman Municipal Stadium was modernised by Eiffage Polska in just six months.
The aim of the work was to prepare the facility for the Third European Games, which took place in Krakow between 21 June and 2 July 2023.
The modernisation work was initiated on 8 December 2022 and covered:
- The construction of the stadium's glass façade and structure;
- Replacement of the north stand roof;
- Replacement of the south stand roof;
- Repairs to the sloping awnings around the stands;
- Replacement of ventilation systems;
- Replacement of the fire safety systems, emergency lighting and surge protection devices;
- Modernisation of the audible warning system;
- Modernisation of fire-fighting systems
A radiant future
The stadium was of paramount importance during the European Games, being the home of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the arena where the national rugby sevens teams faced off.
For many decades, it has been an integral part of Krakow's urban fabric, an inseparable element of its landscape.
Now the modernisation work is complete, it is able to continue serving the city for many years to come, perpetuating its central role in the local community.
