Ghent people inaugurated their new cultural center De Waalse Krook on March 11th.

The new De Krook library opened its doors on March 10th, 11th and 12th for 20,000 visitors and media and modern architecture enthusiasts.

Beautiful festivities have been organized in this brand new building located near the Scheldt in the city center.

Sven Gats, the Flemish Minister for Culture, inaugurated this important cultural center on Friday afternoon in the presence of many guests.

After this official part, all interested parties were able to visit this little jewel that marks the urban renewal of the city of Ghent which will be fertile ground for the culture, the research and the spirit of enterprise.

Many people already consider the Waalse Krook as a pearl in the middle of the water.

The Belgian architects Coussée & Goris and the Spanish architects RCR Arande Pigem Vilalta Arquitectes, who initiated the design of the project, succeeded in realizing a contemporary architecture integrating in the old city.

This emblematic project was realized by Antwerpse Bouwwerken (Eiffage Benelux) in less than 3 years. Herbosch-Kiere (wharf) and Lemants (metal structure) also took part in the project.
