Eiffage Construction experiments with very low carbon construction on the construction site of the Ateliers gaité de Montparnasse in Paris

Placing sustainable development at the heart of its project, Eiffage Construction is committed to its client Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield to reduce the carbon footprint on the construction site of the Ateliers gaité à Montparnasse. The Eiffage Construction teams accompanied, by their advice and contacts, the start-up of Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies, which inaugurated at the end of 2018 the first very low carbon concrete factory in France. Their products will be used on the Paris shipyard in 2019.

Eiffage Construction has been designated to carry out the big-work and closed-cover of Ateliers gaité for the Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield account. This operation consists in the rehabilitation of a mixed program for main use of shops, hotels, offices and housing, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris.

It is in this environment that the Eiffage Construction teams have decided to commit to the Better Places 2030 strategy - a plan that aims at a transition to a modernized, intelligent and less carbonaceous economy and mobility - initiated by their Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield client.

As a proactive partner, Eiffage Construction focused on one objective: reducing carbon emissions when building. The Offices area of the Ateliers gaité à Montparnasse has therefore been defined as a pilot site for the reduction of carbon emissions.

In search of less energetic concrete, Eiffage Construction was interested in the work of David Hoffmann. This chemist has developed a particular technology allowing the production of cement from industrial co-products to produce a binder emitting five times less CO² than a conventional cement.
Convinced of the future of this new concrete, Eiffage Construction provided technical and practical implementation advice to the project. Its collaboration, for more than a year, with the Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies team made it possible to finalize the product, through a concrete application on the Ateliers Gaité project in Montparnasse. The first products were delivered to the Paris site at the end of December 2018.

The combination of its various actions, the synergy of three companies involved, as well as the daily work of Eiffage Construction Grands Projets teams to improve their carbon footprint, make Ateliers Gaité a major project in terms of sustainable development.
